GT Women's Basketball announces signing Sydney Johnson from BU

Georgia Tech WBB adds veteran point guard Sydney Johnson to the roster.

Georgia Tech announced the signing of Sydney Johnson, a senior point guard transferring from Boston University for her last year. Johnson, from Powder Springs, GA, was a core member of the Terrier’s starting lineup during her four years there and amassed several awards and top 10 program rankings. In program history rankings, she leaves BU 11th in career points with 1255, 8th in career assists with 330, 9th in career field goals with 483, and 9th in points per game with 12.0. She started 97 of her 105 games and received the following awards during her time:

• All-Patriot League First Team (2023)

• All-Patriot League Defensive Team (2023)

• All-Patriot League Tournament Team (2023)

• Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year (2022-23)

• All-Patriot League First Team (2022)

• All-Patriot League Tournament Team (2022)

• Patriot League Player of the Week (1/31/22)

• All-Patriot League Second Team (2021)

• All-Patriot League Tournament Team (2021)

• Patriot League All-Rookie Team (2020)

Sydney Johnson Shooting
Georgia Tech signed another likely starter in Sydney Johnson / Boston University Athletics

Johnson is a shooter who should make an immediate impact with Bianca Jackson and Cameron Swartz graduated. Last season, she shot 41.4% from the field and 40.2% from the field, leading the team in assists and steals averaging 3.3 and 1.7 a game.

In high school, Johnson was a McDonald's All-American nominee. She will be an incredible addition to the team, especially as most of our returning starters are young, she can provide a veteran presence that will be key to making a post-season run. We will see how she does in the jump from Patriot League to ACC, but with her clear talent and Coach Fortner’s coaching abilities, this is shaping up to be an exciting season.
