Can Georgia Tech get a much needed win over Louisville in ACC play?

You might think that things can't get much worse for Georgia Tech basketball after losing by 43 points to Duke, but if the Yellow Jackets were to lose to last-place Louisville on Wednesday, it will be worse.

Louisville is one of the worst teams in the country and is in last place in the ACC standings. The Cardinals are 2-19 this season and 0-10 in the ACC. They are ranked 300th in the KenPom Rankings (Tech is 198th) and have lost 10 straight games and have not won a game since the calendar turned to 2023.

Georgia Tech on the other hand is 1-9 in ACC play and has lost seven straight to Louisville. Georgia Tech plays three of its last nine ACC games on the road, including trips to Louisville and NC State this week. The Yellow Jackets’ only remaining home games are against Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, and Louisville

1st Half

Deivon Smith and Lance Terry are both out for Georgia Tech tonight. The starting lineup is going to be Deebo Coleman, Kyle Sturdivant, Miles Kelly, Ja'von Franklin, and Rodney Howard. 

El Ellis, Mike James, JJ Traynor, Sydney Curry, and Jae'Lyn Withers are starting for Louisville.

• Early on, Louisville is outrebounding Tech 4-0
• Cardinals hit a pair of free throws to get on the board first. 2-0
• Yellow Jackets have opened 0-5 from the floor
• Sturdivant hits a three and gets Tech on the board. 3-2 GT leads it
• Miles Kelly has five early points. Georgia Tech now leads 8-4
• Media timeout with 13:17 left in the first half. Georgia Tech and Louisville are tied 8-8. Both teams shooting 30% or lower to start this game. Cardinals outrebounding GT 10-5
• Georgia Tech has not scored in the last two and a half minutes. Brutal start for both offenses

• Media timeout with 7:53 left. Louisville leads Georgia Tech 16-12. Tech is shooting 4-19 and is being outrebounded 18-7. 
• Georgia Tech is shooting 27%, but has hit five threes. Rebounding is killing them though. Louisville has the 21-10 edge

• Louisville has hit their last three field goals

2nd Half

• Louisville still leads early on, 35-32
• Media timeout with 15:53 left in the game, Georgia Tech trails Louisville 41-36. 
• Georgia Tech is two for their last 10 field goals. Louisville is also similarly in a scoring drought as well. The Cardinals have not scored in three minutes
• Media timeout with 11:07 to go in the game, Louisville leads Georgia Tech 45-43.
• Media timeout with 7:12 left. Georgia Tech trails 50-48. Stretch run coming up for the Yellow Jackets
