Georgia Tech Football Weekly Recruiting Recap: 7/31
The dead period is set to begin on August 1st and that is also the day that Georgia Tech will begin fall camp. The summer is a time when recruiting takes center stage, but now the program will turn towards getting ready for the 2023 season and the first opponent, which is Lousiville in Mercedes Benz Stadium on Sept 1st.
Right before the dead period begins though, Georgia Tech had an eventful week on the recruiting trail, Let's break it down here.
1. Three-star offensive tackle Jameson Riggs commits to Georgia Tech over Auburn and Clemson
Riggs is rated as the No. 643 player in the country on the 247Sports Composite and the No. 78 player in the state of Georgia. He holds other offers from Clemson, Auburn, Arkansas, Cincinnati, Colorado, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, NC State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, and USC, among others.
Riggs took officials to Georgia Tech, Auburn, and Clemson. It came down to those three and Brent Key and Georgia Tech were able to beat out Dabo Swinney and Hugh Freeze for Riggs.
2. 2024 tight end Lane Wadle commits to Georgia Tech
After his de-commitment from Northern Illinois earlier this week, the Jackets were able to sell Wadle on their vision for him as a part of the offense and add the talented tight end to a 2024 class chock-full of potential.
3. Four-star 2025 tight end Brock Schott earns offer from Georgia Tech
Schott is the No. 173 player in the 2025 class according to 247Sports and the No. 8 tight end in the country. He also has offers from Cincinnati, Duke, Iowa, Louisville, Miami, Michigan State, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, among others.
4. 2026 Safety Javion Butts earns offer from Georgia Tech
Butts plays at Jones County High School (GA) and has offers from East Carolina, Georgia Southern, Indiana, Liberty, Nebraska, Wake Forest, and North Carolina.
5. 2024 Safety Elyjah Gordon earns an offer from Georgia Tech
Gordon also has offers from Auburn and USC.
6. 2026 Safety Macaiden Brown earns offer from Georgia Tech
7. Georgia Tech hosts a number of recruits over the weekend
8. 2025 Safety Jontae Gilbert decommitts from Ohio State after Georgia Tech visit
Gilbert is a five-star player according to the 247Sports Composite and the No. 25 player in the country for the 2025 class. He is the No. 6 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 2 safety in the country.
His other offers include South Carolina, Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Miami, Georgia, Michigan State, NC State, USC, Texas A&M, Florida, Florida State, LSU, and Pitt, among others.
Gilbert is a 6'1 175 LBS playmaker at the safety position and if Brent Key and his staff can pull off this flip, it would be quite the get.
