ACC Football: Week Four Predictions for Every ACC Game
Week three is in the books and now, the most anticipated ACC game of the year gets played this week.
During the offseason, Florida State vs Clemson was the talk of the ACC. This game was supposed to determine the top team in the conference and present a playoff contender. Some of the air got taken out of this game due to Clemson losing to Duke in week one, but the Tigers have a chance to reset their season if they can beat No. 4 Florida State at home this weekend.
That is by far the most intriguing game of the week in the ACC, but the second-best ACC game this upcoming weekend is taking place at Wake Forest. The undefeated Demon Deacons host Georgia Tech and this game is huge for both team's chances of making a bowl game.
I had a perfect week last week picking games and am now 30-6 this season. Let's keep the train rolling.
Note: I will have a full preview and pick for Wake Forest vs Georgia Tech later this week.
Friday, Sept. 22nd
NC State (-9.5) at Virginia (7:30 p.m. ESPN)
The ACC gets started this Friday night with a meeting between NC State and Virginia in Charlottesville. It has been a season to forget so far for UVA and it won't get any easier against Dave Dorean's team this week as the Wolfpack have an excellent defense. The interesting thing to watch here will be the NC State offense, which has sputtered to start the year. Former Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong should make enough plays to win and I like the Wolfpack here.
Final Score: NC State 31, UVA 17
Saturday, Sept. 23rd
Florida State (-1.5) at Clemson (12:00 p.m. ABC)
This game is going to be one of the most watched across the country this weekend and the winner is going to be the front-runner in the ACC. If Florida State wins, it cement its status as the top team in the conference and a playoff contender. If Clemson wins, however, they will reemerge as a factor in the ACC and be a contender. It is hard to say who needs to win this game more. If the Tigers lose, it could start a spiral for their season, considering they would already have two conference losses and both Duke and FSU would have none. Florida State is receiving plenty of hype after beating LSU, but they looked shaky this past weekend against Boston College. This will be a close game, but I trust Florida State to get it done on the road thanks to some explosive plays from Keon Coleman and Jordan Travis.
Final Score: Florida State 34, Clemson 27
Army at Syracuse (-13) (12:00 p.m. ACC Network)
Syracuse got an impressive road win against Purdue and is now 3-0. Army is also coming off of a pretty big win against UTSA, but it has been a tough season otherwise for Jeff Monken's group. I think Syracuse is good on both sides of the ball and quarterback Garrett Shrader has played great. Look for the Orange to cover the spread here and get a nice win.
Final Score: Syracuse 41, Army 14
Virginia Tech at Marshall (-7.5) (12:00 p.m. ESPN2)
It is ROUGH in Blacksburg right now after a blowout loss to Rutgers. The offense continues to look terrible and now the Hokies find themselves as more than a touchdown underdog against Marshall. It seems like forever ago since VT was competing for ACC titles every year, but this program is heading in the wrong direction right now and I don't see it changing.
Final Score: Marshall 24, Virginia Tech 13
Duke (-21.5) at UConn (3:30 CBS Sports Network)
The Blue Devils keep rolling and Mike Elko's team will need to focus on this game with a big test against Notre Dame coming up next week. Duke handled Northwestern this past week and have not had a hangover effect from beating Clemson. Bigger games are ahead, but the Blue Devils can't afford to look past the Huskies.
Final Score: Duke 38, UConn 20
Miami (-24.5) at Temple (3:30 p.m. ESPN2)
Miami is 3-0 heading into a road game (yes, really) at Temple. The Hurricanes took care of business against Bethune-Cookman and will look to head into their bye week 4-0. Temple is not a very good team, but Miami can't afford to overlook them. The offense for the Hurricanes is clicking on all cylinders right now and I like them to win and cover this week.
Final Score: Miami 45, Temple 13
Boston College at Louisville (-14) (3:30 p.m. ACC Network)
Boston College came oh so close to pulling off a big upset against Florida State over the weekend, but fell short, largely due to 18 penalties. The Cardinals on the other hand are 3-0, but did not look great in a win over Indiana. Louisville has taken advantage of a soft schedule to start the season and I think that continues. Boston College is 1-2 this season and has to be deflated after coming so close to beating Florida State.
Final Score: Louisville 28, Boston College 10
North Carolina (-6.5) at Pitt (8:00 p.m.)
I could not be lower on Pitt right now if I tried. The Panthers have looked hideous the last two weeks, especially on offense and quarterback Phil Jurkovec might be the worst starting quarterback in the power five. North Carolina had an interesting test against Minnesota and they aced it. Quarterback Drake Maye looked fantastic and Nate McCollum might be emerging as his top target. The Tar Heels look like an ACC contender right now and I think they win handily.
Final Score: North Carolina 31, Pitt 7
