Indiana Leads Recruitment of Liam McNeeley Per College Basketball Insider
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana basketball coach Mike Woodson and the Hoosiers might have failed to land four-star recruit Jaeden Mustaf on Thursday, but that didn't stop IU from receiving positive news on a different recruit — Liam McNeeley.
According to college basketball insider Trilly Donovan, "Indiana leads" in the recruitment of the five-star McNeeley.
For those questioning the journalistic credibility of a self-described "burner account," Trilly Donovan has broken quite a few college basketball news stories this offseason. He's been deemed a credible source on recruiting news by other reporters and recently created a new college basketball media outlet of his own.
That news is nothing out of the ordinary. Woodson and the Hoosiers have long been the projected favorite to land McNeeley by multiple recruiting-based media outlets. But this is about as direct as it gets, with a clear distinction that Indiana has an edge over Texas and Kansas when it comes to McNeeley.
As you can see in that same post, there are number of other Indiana men's basketball recruiting targets that Trilly provided updates on.
McNeeley's five-star teammate at Montverde — Derik Queen — is reportedly favoring Big Ten rival Maryland. The recruitment of Queen has practically been a one-on-one battle between Woodson and coach Kevin Willard for the 6-foot-8 big man, with the Terrapins likely having an edge due to Queen being a Baltimore native.
McNeeley and Queen have dominated Indiana recruiting headlines the past month, but the Hoosiers have also offered scholarships to Annor Boateng, Tyler Betsey, Rakease Passmore and Curtis Givens III.
Givens joined McNeeley and Queen on the Montverde trio's visit to Bloomington during the weekend of the football game against Indiana State. The 6-foot-2 guard, however, does not have IU as his preferred landing spot, according to Trilly's report. Instead, it appears Givens is deciding between LSU and Memphis.
Missouri is the reported leader to land four-star Boateng, while Arkansas is the favorite for Passmore. There had been some strong connections between Betsey and IU in the past, but according to Trilly's post, Cincinnati and Alabama are battling to land the four-star from Connecticut.

Overall, Thursday's news isn't anything shocking or unheard of, but does reassure most of what has already been written in regard to these 2024 Indiana basketball recruiting targets.
Woodson and IU are in contention for several top recruits, but likely won't land all of their targets. Maryland is in the lead for Queen, with Indiana just inches behind in that recruiting battle. And most importantly, McNeeley is the 2024 recruit most likely to be a Hoosier in the coming year.
