BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana women's basketball popularity has exploded in the last season with the success of the program and the national rise of interest in women's collegiate sports.

The program tweeted the Hoosiers' 2022-23 season total attendance was 117,781 fans in the regular season, which ranks sixth in the nation and second in the Big Ten. That averages out to about 8,104 fans per contest.

This is almost double the totals from the 2021-22 campaign where 59,595 fans packed Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall for an average audience of 4,726 people per game. That was good enough for 13th in the nation and third in the Big Ten.

Last season (2021-22), South Carolina topped the attendance chart with an average 12,268 fans per game to support the Gamecocks, who ultimately ended up winning the national title over Connecticut. Iowa's attendance was the highest in the Big Ten last season with 8,224 fans packing Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

There are many lists of 2022-23 attendance for women's basketball programs, but keep in mind the NCAA has not yet released the official attendance document. When it does, it can be found here above the 2021-22 season's tab.

This past season, the Hoosiers made history by earning its first one-seed in the NCAA Tournament while securing a 28-4 overall record and 16-2 conference record. The Hoosiers under all-time winningest coach Teri Moren won their first outright Big Ten regular season title in 40 years and also saw starting guard Grace Berger earn the program's highest WNBA draft pick at No. 7 overall to the Indiana Fever.
