BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University and Hoosier women's basketball coach Teri Moren have agreed to extend the head coach's contract through 2029 making her one of the highest paid women's basketball coaches in the country.

Approaching her 10th season at the helm, Moren's deal includes an average annual salary of more than $1.3 million, which is second best in the Big Ten and among the top coaches in the nation. Her compensation can go up even more based on sound performance such as earning Big Ten regular and postseason championships, NCAA Tournament participation and victories and Conference or National Coach of the Year accolades — feats Moren accomplished last season.

“Teri Moren has clearly established herself as one of the nation’s best basketball coaches, and in doing so has elevated Indiana Women’s Basketball to an unprecedented level in our program’s history,” said Indiana University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson.

“The decision to modify her contract not only recognizes the tremendous successes she has enjoyed during her nine years here, but also Indiana University’s commitment to continue to elevate IU Women’s Basketball into one of the best programs in the sport.”

Moren's Hoosiers finished the 2022-23 season 28-4 and as Big Ten regular season title champions for the first time in 40 years. The program also earned its first one-seed in the NCAA Tournament as the Hoosiers made a surprising early exit in the second round off a two-point loss to Miami.

The Seymour, Ind. native is the reigning Associated Press National Coach of the Year and is Indiana's all-time winningest coach posting a 200-93 overall record. She's led her team to eight consecutive 20-win seasons and brought in an average 8,104 fans to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, a 199% increase compared to 2014 when she first arrived to Bloomington.

“I am honored and humbled to receive a contract extension from Indiana University,” said Moren. “I am incredibly proud of what we have been able to build during our time at IU which is a direct reflection of our student-athletes, coaches, support staff and fans who have all played a big part in our success.

"I am excited for what’s happening in the future of our program. A very heartfelt thank you to President Whitten and Scott Dolson for their support and their trust in me to lead this program for the long term. I am proud to be a Hoosier.”
