Indiana Football Projected Underdog in Nine Games Next Season

Indiana Football is once again projected to lose many games during the 2023 season, though the Hoosiers are not the lowest-rated team in the Big Ten this year.

The Indiana football program is used to being the underdog, and it's shaping up to be that way again in the fall of 2023.

The Action Network's Collin Wilson published his 2023 Preseason College Football Betting Power Ratings today and ranked the Indiana Hoosiers at 88th overall out of 133 FBS teams with a power rating of 67.5.

The Hoosiers are projected as underdogs in nine of their 12 games in 2023.

Indiana is rated beneath all but one Big Ten team, Rutgers, which clocked in at the 92nd overall spot with a power rating of 66.5. The only other Power Five schools with a rating lower than Indiana's were Virginia Tech (91st), Boston College (101st), Georgia Tech (102nd), Colorado (113th), and Stanford (119th).

The three teams Indiana is projected to be favored against include Rutgers, the Akron Zips (rated 114th overall) and Indiana State, which did not receive a ranking because the Sycamores play at the FCS level.

IU will play all three of the previously mentioned teams in Bloomington this fall, facing Indiana State in a Friday night game on Sept. 8, Akron on Sept. 23, and Rutgers on Oct. 21.

Indiana will also face Michigan and Ohio State once again this year, the No. 2 and No. 3 rated teams in Wilson's Power Ratings, respectively. The Hoosiers will face the Wolverines in Ann Arbor on Oct. 14, and will welcome the Buckeyes for the season opener in Bloomington on Sept. 2.

According to the gambling experts at Fanduel, the Hoosiers' over/under wins total is set at just 3.5 games. It's the lowest total in the Big Ten, along with Rutgers. Indiana also has the longest odds to win the Big Ten at plus-30000.
