WATCH: Indiana Running Back Jaylin Lucas Scores First Touchdown of Season
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Running back Jaylin Lucas scored the first touchdown of the season for the Indiana Hoosiers on Friday night against the Indiana State Sycamores.
The 5-foot-9 speedster broke loose on a run to the right, turned the corner and found the end zone to put IU up 7-0 in the game.
Lucas's score capped off what was an extremely successful first drive of the game for Indiana.
After forcing an Indiana State three-and-out, quarterback Tayven Jackson took the IU offense right down the field in four easy plays. First it was a 10-yard pass to Lucas, then a 4-yard throw to Cam Camper and a 19-yard toss to Donaven McCulley.
That, along with a 15 yards tacked on by a roughing the passer penalty, was all the offense needed to get in scoring range. No one on the Indiana State defense had any chance of catching one of college football's most electrifying players once he got out in the open.
This was Lucas's third rushing touchdown of his college career. As a true freshman in 2022, he ran for two touchdowns along with 271 yards on 49 total carries. It was, however, the fifth overall touchdown of Lucas's Indiana football career, as he also took back two kickoffs in 2022 for touchdowns.
Lucas soon had six touchdowns in his career, though, as he scored a second 25-yard rushing touchdown before the first quarter had even reached its midway point to put IU up 14-0.
