Kansas Jayhawks no longer ranked, still receiving votes
A two-week run in the polls came to an end this week as the Kansas Jayhawks fell out of the rankings when they were released on Sunday.
The Jayhawks are coming off of two straight losses, first at home against an undefeated TCU Horned Frogs team (that beat Oklahoma State this week), and then on Saturday on the road against the Oklahoma Sooners.
The Jayhawks first received votes in the polls four weeks ago without getting enough votes to crack the Top 25. Three weeks ago, a bunch of people were upset, when they narrowly missed out.
But a 5-0 start to the season was too much to ignore, and Kansas finally cracked the polls, ranking 17 in the Coaches Poll and 19 in the AP Poll. But those two losses were too much to ignore, and Kansas was dropped from the poll this week. However, they are still receiving votes in both polls, so a quick turnaround could see them right back in the rankings next week.
Big 12 teams in the Coaches Poll are TCU at 8, Oklahoma State at 11, Kansas State at 17 and Texas at 20. Big 12 teams in the AP Poll are TCU at 8, Oklahoma State at 11, Kansas State at 17 and Texas at 21.
The Jayhawks struggle this week without starting quarterback Jalon Daniels. Jason Bean filled in pretty well, but a couple poor throws led to turnovers that killed Kansas comeback attempts, and yet another injury hampered the Kansas defense, as Cobee Bryant left the game late in the first half. How Kansas responds will define their season.
