Mark Stoops urges fans to "donate more" to help Kentucky get better players

A lot of people are upset with this quote from Coach Mark Stoops.

In this story:

On his Monday radio show, Coach Stoops was asked about the loss to Georgia and had this to say.

"Fans have that right (to complain). I give it to them. I just encourage them to donate more because that's what those dudes are doing. I can promise you, Georgia, they bought some pretty good players. You're allowed to these days. We could use some help."

This quote has the Kentucky fan base split about 50/50 down the line as to whether they are upset by this or agree with what he is saying.

It's easy to see both sides of this argument, but Stoops is not wrong in what he is saying.

Kentucky is getting outbid on top recruits, and the Cats geographically are already at a disadvantage.

A great example of this is Kentucky basketball recruiting. Coach Cal can go anywhere in the country and sell a top-ranked player on why he should choose Kentucky.

Coach Stoops doesn't have that advantage, plus the state of Kentucky isn't full of football talent.

Given the disadvantages Coach Stoops has on the recruiting trail, he still continues to bring in talented players with every class.

The talent development at Kentucky is some of the best in college football, and Coach Stoops constantly has proven he can do more with less.

It's understandable why Kentucky fans are upset with this comment from the Cats head football coach, but if Stoops did have more recruiting dollars, he could bring in more talent every year.

Coach Stoops hasn't quite gotten over the beat top dog Georgia hump yet, but he has done a whole heck of a lot during his time at Kentucky, and Big Blue Nation should rest assured knowing he will take down the big dogs someday.

The Cats will have another opportunity to do that this season as the Alabama Crimson Tide come to town on November 11th.
