Kentucky Briefing: Reed Sheppard named SEC Freshman of the Week

Reed Sheppard's performance against Louisville earned him SEC Freshman of the Week honors.

It was announced on Tuesday that Kentucky freshman guard Reed Sheppard had won the SEC Freshman of the Week award for his performance against the Louisville Cardinals.

This is the second time the Kentucky native has won this award, further proving he has been one of the best freshmen in all of college hoops, right up there with Rob Dillingham.

In this game against Louisville, Sheppard has 11 points to go with 11 assists, giving him his first collegiate double-double.

Games like this one are what make Sheppard so special; he didn't need to shoot the ball a lot to have a massive impact in the game. Sheppard only attempted six field goals but had the team's best +/- at a +27.

He just can affect the basketball game in so many ways, whether it be stealing the ball, making threes, or dishing to open teammates.

It's safe to say this will not be the last time Sheppard is named the SEC Freshman of the Week.

We wrote it

I wrote about how ESPN predicted each game on Kentucky's conference slate, which begins in a few days.

"Now that the holidays are past us and we are nearing the start of the new year, it's the perfect time to start thinking about the SEC schedule and how the Cats could fare in the gauntlet of conference play. ESPN's matchup predictor put out their numbers for what they think Kentucky's record will be in SEC play."
