Miami Offense Comes Out 'Flat' vs Georgia Tech
Even with a tremendous defensive effort, the Miami Hurricanes offense just could not get anything going versus Georgia Tech. Even when it did, just horrible penalties yet again (at this point of the season that's what this team is on offense and defense). It's been the biggest problem for the 2023 Canes.
Miami committed four penalties for 55 yards, including another three 15-yard penalties. That's the definition of undisciplined football.
One of them was when the Hurricanes had the Yellow Jackets backed up inside their own 10 yard line. Another killer was when running back Henry Parrish, Jr. breaks through for a touchdown, and there's penalty again.
Over and over, Miami kept shooting itself in the foot.
It's Miami leading Georgia Tech 3-0 at halftime. It even squandered a fantastic interception by middle linebacker Francisco Mauigoa.
The other reason besides the penalties would be Miami just taking GT lightly. There's no place near enough energy with Miami's offense (The "D" looks locked in). Georgia Tech's rushing defense ranked 131st in the nation coming into this game. It's competed quite well, to be honest, and Miami's effort was up and down.
There's hardly any rhythm with the passing game as well. Even so, the Hurricanes still had 217 yards of total offense. The Canes moved the ball for much of the half, then sputtered.
Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke's second interception of the season was down the middle, late, and in the end zone. That play was a microcosm of the Miami offense's first half. It was a horrible decision. Here are a few of the first half stats for the offense, and then the defense:
Miami Offense
Rushing: 20 carries, 104 yards
Van Dyke: 14/23, 113 yards, and 1 interception
Third Downs: 4 of 8
Total Yards 217
Miami Defense
Third Down Defense: GT converted 2 of 7
Yards Per Play: GT averaged only 2.5
Haynes King: 6 of 10, 24 yards
GT Rushing: 14 carries for 37 yards
GT Total Yards: 61
