With the Miami Hurricanes rich football history, t.here have been years with players on the Hall of Fame ballot. But six?
That goes to show just the history of The U. Here’s what the University of Miami has on its X page:
The players in question would be as follows:
Devin Hester, WR/Return Specialist, Riviera Beach (Fla.) Suncoast, Miami: 2003-2005
His return game was one of the best of all-time. Hester’s elite speed (10.42 100 meters) and elusiveness helped keep him in the record books for the return game at UM, as well as the National Football League with the Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, and Seattle Seahawks.
Andre Johnson, WR, Miami (Fla.) Senior, Miami: 1999-2001
Johnson was a dominant college and pro player. For Miami, 92 receptions, 1,831 yards, 20 touchdowns. His NFL career was awesome as well, as the former Cane and national champion had 1,062 receptions, 1,485 yards, and 70 scores.
Reggie Wayne, WR, Marrero (La.) John Ehret, Miami: 1997-2000
Breaking Michael Irvin’s Freshman receptions record is the beginning of Wayne’s story as a Hurricane. The incredible route runner has 173 receptions, 2,510 yards, and 20 touchdowns. Playing with Peyton Manning for the Indianapolis Colts, Wayne has 1,070 receptions, 14,345 yards, and 82 touchdowns.
Vince Wilfork, DT/NG, Lantana (Fla.) Santaluces, Miami: 2001-2003
Power and strength have usually been what people think of with Wilfork. His agility also allowed him to make plays other interior defensive linemen simply could not. A pivotal player for Miami’s 2001 title team, Wilfork had 148 tackles while playing for Miami. As a New England Patriot, Wilfork helped to anchor one of the NFL’s best defenses, and played well for the Houston Texans, too.
Jesse Armstead, LB, Dallas (Texas) Carter, Miami: 1989-1992
One of the nation’s best high school prospects was also a standout for the Hurricanes, helping The U to win titles in 1989 and 1991. Also a five-time NFL Pro Bowl selection with the New York Giants, Armstead’s speed and athleticism were a major reason why he not only reached the pro level, but his intelligence and ability to be a three-down linebacker, helped to keep him in the NFL from 1993 through 2004.
Jeff Feagles, Punter, Phoenix (Ariz.) Gerard Catholic, Miami: 1985-1987
Many know Feagles as a 22-year NFL veteran, and rightfully so. He began his Division I career at Miami, however, including being a part of the Canes 1987 championship squad. He averaged 40.8 yards per punt during that title run.
