Miami's Recruitment of Jeremiah Smith: It's a 'Team' Effort
For the Miami Hurricanes, there are numerous important recruits from South Florida. Hard to argue that no one prospect is more important than Jeremiah Smith.
A consensus 5-star recruit, Smith is a game-changer for the fortunate college football program that does indeed sign him.
To that point, Mario Cristobal and the Canes continue to keep trying to flip him from the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Miami head coach, and his staff, are gaining some assistance from the current roster as well.
Like many South Florida players, current Miami slot receiver Xavier Restrepo keeps up with prep football in the area. Obviously he knows Smith.
It’s cool that he wants to see Smith one day represent The U, like Restrepo currently does. For anyone that does not know more about Smith's personality, here’s the lowdown.
One can call him the quiet Assassin. Why might you ask?
The Broward County media day helps to expand on this topic (see video above). Smith’s good friend, fellow Chaminade-Madonna teammate, and Miami commitment Zaquan Patterson, has a unique take on Smith. “A lot of people don’t know that JJ doesn’t talk, he doesn’t talk at all,” in relation to Smith’s trash talking exploits.
Well, the 6-foot-3 and now 210-pound wide receiver talks with his play. That is, unless you really tick him off. Patterson expands on that point.
“You know he’s locked in, and he’s in his mood, when he starts talking. That’s what a lot of people don’t know. If you ever get JJ to start talking, that’s a bad situation.”
Many high school defensive backs still must deal with Smith until he graduates from Chaminade-Madonna. As for Smith's recruitment, it’s still good for Miami that there’s a team effort to get the best receiver in the country to eventually sign with the Hurricanes. It's a long way until National Signing Day.
