Why he chose Northwestern:

Sullivan’s decision to join the Wildcats was a no-brainer—he committed just one hour after receiving an offer from head coach Pat Fitzgerald.

“I love the coaching staff, [offensive coordinator Mike] Bajakian and [Coach] Fitzgerald,” Sullivan told 247 Sports. “They are some great guys, and it is a very stable environment — amazing education. It has always been a dream of mine to play Big Ten football, and I envision a lot of wins as a Wildcat.”

Evaluation:

Sullivan is just as valued for his skills on the field as he is for those off of it.

With above-average size, the quarterback makes good use of his solid arm and quick feet. His junior year, he passed for 3,044 yards and 33 touchdowns, with 407 yards and 11 touchdowns rushing. Despite a shortened senior season due to the pandemic, Sullivan still managed to pass for 1,012 yards and 10 touchdowns, with 282 yards and seven touchdowns rushing.

Above all, Sullivan can put the pieces together, having demonstrated an ability to avoid pressure by scrambling out of the pocket while maintaining pass accuracy on the run.

Beyond physical talents, Sullivan is also known for the intangibles he will contribute. Specifically, Sullivan will bring strong leadership and a level head to the Wildcats’ locker room.

Playing time projection:

With seven other quarterbacks on Northwestern’s roster—including transfer QB Ryan Hilinski—it isn’t likely that Sullivan will see much action on the field. However, offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian said that the starting QB spot will be up for grabs until the end of fall camp, so Sullivan still has the opportunity to impress coaches and climb his way up the Wildcats’ depth chart.
