Notre Dame Football Commits Set For a Big Week Of Action In Week 0

It’s official, high school football is finally back this week and several Notre Dame commits are set to kick off their senior season! Eleven in total will get things started this weekend.

Let’s take a look at the games to watch this week. The future of Irish football will be well on display this Friday and Saturday.

WR MICAH GILBERT, CHARLOTTE (N.C.) CHRISTIAN

Matchup: Charlotte Christian at Myers Park ( Charlotte, N.C.)

Game Time: Saturday (8/19) at 12:00 PM ET

On Saturday, Charlotte Christian gets their season kicked off when they travel to Myers Park. After a 10-3 season in 2022, the Knights come into this campaign with big expectations. On offense, they will be led by Gilbert who is one of the more advanced pass catchers in the 2024 recruiting class. He’s hoping to put together a full healthy season and showcase his overall impact.

TE JACK LARSEN, CHARLOTTE (N.C.) CATHOLIC

Matchup: Charlotte Catholic at South Mecklenburg (Charlotte, N.C.)

Game Time: Friday (8/18) at 7:00 PM ET

As a junior, Larsen became a big playmaker for his offense, hauling in 37 receptions for 686 yards and ten touchdowns. The team finished with a 9-3 overall record in 2023. Larsen will be counting on a lot as the Cougars break in a new quarterback.

OT ANTHONIE KNAPP, ROSWELL (Ga.) HS

Matchup: Roswell at Denmark (Alpharetta, Ga.)

Game Time: Friday (8/18) at 7:30 PM ET

Knapp has been putting in a lot of work this off-season, with his coaches boasting about their expectations for him. Roswell is coming off of a 12-2 overall record in 2022. They defeated Denmark 35-10 last season.

OT STYLES PRESCOD, FISHERS (Ind.) HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN

Matchup: Hamilton Southeastern vs Carroll (Fishers, Ind.)

Game Time: Friday (8/18) at 7:30 PM ET

Fresh off of a 12-1 overall record in 2022, Hamilton Southeastern fell short in the playoffs to Carroll 21-15. They now get a rematch with Carroll to kick off the season. Prescod has put on about 20 pounds this off-season, which should make him even more dominant as a senior.

DE BRYCE YOUNG, CHARLOTTE (N.C.) CHRISTIAN

Matchup: Charlotte Christian at Myers Park ( Charlotte, N.C.)

With Gilbert making plays on the offensive side of the football, Young is poised to be a difference maker for the Knight defense. The Notre Dame legacy has added a lot of mass to his frame. We’re expecting a big rise as a senior, beginning with their battle with Myers Park.

DE LOGHAN THOMAS, LAKEWOOD (Ohio) ST. EDWARD

Matchup: St. Edward vs Center Grove (Massillon, Ohio)

Game Time: Saturday (8/19) at 12:00 PM ET

After transferring from Paetow High School this off-season, powerhouse St. Edward is going to get a huge boost from Thomas, one of the more athletic pass rushers in the 2024 class. St. Edward is coming off of back-to-back state championships victories and will be tested right off the bat by Center Grove in this neutral site game, who is one of the better programs in the state of Indiana.

DE COLE MULLINS, HOSCHTON (Ga.) MILL CREEK

Matchup: Mill Creek at North Gwinnett (Suwanee, Ga.)

Game Time: Saturday (8/19) at 4:00 PM ET

With star 2023 safety Caleb Downs off to Alabama, Mullins is out of his shadow and ready to lead an extremely talented Mill Creek defense. The team is fresh off of a state championship in 2022, with Mullins’ 10 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks being a big reason for it.

LB KYNGSTONN VILIAMU-ASA, BELLFLOWER (Calif.) ST. JOHN BOSCO

Matchup: St. John Bosco vs Liberty (Bellflower, Calif.)

Game Time: Friday (8/18) at 7:00 PM ET

Fresh off of a state and national championship last season, Viliamu-Asa and the St. John Braves will be back in action this Friday. The senior linebacker is one of the top overall defensive players in the 2024 class and the leader of an incredibly talented St. John Bosco defense. If the defense needs a big play, there is a good chance No. 27 will be involved in it.

CB KARSON HOBBS, CINCINNATI (Ohio) ARCHBISHOP MOELLER

Matchup: Archbishop Moeller vs Ben Davis (Cincinnati, Ohio)

Game Time: Friday (8/18) at 7:00 PM ET

Hobbs’ senior season was put into jeopardy when he sustained a thumb injury a little over a month ago. With a miraculous recovery, the talented cornerback is set to return for week one. Archbishop Moeller is coming off of a 12-2 record last season, opposed by an always talented Ben Davis squad, including 2025 cornerback target Mark Zackery.

S TAEBRON BENNIE-POWELL, WEST CHESTER (Ohio) LAKOTA WEST

Matchup: Lakota West at St. Xavier (Cincinnati, Ohio)

Game Time: Friday (8/18) at 7:00 PM ET

Last season, Lakota West was led by a couple of star senior safeties, including Irish signee Ben Minich. Bennie-Powell now looks to take over that role as a senior, establishing himself as a clear playmaker on the backend. Bennie-Powell is one of the more anticipated Notre Dame commits to watch this fall.

S BRAUNTAE JOHNSON, FORT WAYNE (Ind.) NORTH SIDE

Matchip: North Side vs Northridge (Fort Wayne, Ind.)

Game Time: Friday (8/18) at 7:00 PM ET

There may not be a more dynamic athlete on the list for Johnson, who doubles as a star wide receiver and safety for North Side. Whether it’s hauling in a big catch down the field, making an interception or a big hit, it’s likely that Johnson will be making it.
