Former Buckeyes QB Justin Fields Dazzles In Preseason Opener
Chicago Bears and former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields' stat line is a little misleading, but he did his job: get the ball into the hands of his playmakers.
Fields took the field against the Tennessee Titans looking to carry over some momentum he built in 2022 as a dynamic spark plug to the Bears offense, and he was certainly the spark to Chicago's offensive flame in the first quarter.
The Bears pounced on the Titans with two touchdowns in the first quarter on seven plays in a span of 3:20.
Fields completed an 11-yard pass to fullback Khari Blasingame to begin the game, and, two plays later, he threw a screen pass to wide receiver D.J. Moore, who took care of the rest. Moore, who the Bears traded for to give Fields more weapons, ran 62 yards to the house to put Chicago on the board just 1:19 after taking over possession.
After a trio of carries from running back Khalil Herbert, he was rewarded for his efforts through the air. The Bears dialed up a screen pass for Herbert, who also racked up a ton of yards after the catch, toting the rock for a 56-yard touchdown.
Fields was replaced by backup quarterback P.J. Walker on the Bears' next drive. His final stat line read: 3-for-3, 129 yards, two touchdowns and a perfect passer rating of 158.3.
The Kennesaw, GA. native was voted by his peers as the No. 86 player in the NFL's top-100 players.
