Maurice Clarett Goes on Twitter Tirade After Michigan Loss, Wants Ohio State Buckeyes Coach Ryan Day Fired
The head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes has one thing he must do every single season - beat the Michigan Wolverines.
A solo loss is bad. Back-to-back losses are painful. But three straight? That is absolutely unbearable.
It is something that has not happened since the John Cooper era (he did it twice) when the former Buckeyes coach lost 10 of 13 matchups, with the failures vs. Michigan being ultimately a major factor in his firing.
And now, with the team losing its third consecutive game to the Wolverines, former Ohio State star Maurice Clarett is calling for head coach Ryan Day to be fired via a tirade on Twitter.
"Ryan Day…. Love you bro but gotta go," Clarett tweeted. "This is why you’re paid millions. Can't get paid ($9 million) and lose 3 straight."
However, Clarett was far from done with that tweet, sending out a flurry of tweets, doubling down on his stance.
"I’m kind of happy I’m not too connected to the program in these moments," Clarett said. "I don’t have to be fake cool with anyone. Everyone knows…. You can’t lose 3 in a row to Michigan. Everyone just isn’t going to say it because they still want access to the Woody Hayes Center."
"No one cares about beating the BS teams we schedule. We play those teams on purpose to have a good record to get to Michigan and into the playoffs. That’s part of the program. You don’t make 9 million and lose to your rival 3 times in a row."
Putting aside the fact that, before the third straight loss, Day had beaten the Wolverines twice in a row, and Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh had lost to the Buckeyes five straight times... it is not as simple as Clarett makes it out to be.
Even if the Buckeyes wanted to fire Day - which there is no indication that they do whatsoever - there are a myriad of questions that would need to be answered before they could move on from Day.

Chief among those questions would be his replacement, followed by the issue of paying his $46.2 million buyout, what would happen to the current roster, and the impending recruiting implications of a coaching change.
In other words, it would be beyond shocking - and quite frankly senseless - for the Buckeyes to move on from Day.
And as impassioned as Clarett is about that idea, it is far from being in the realm of possibility.
If Day chooses to move on on his own? That is an entirely different story. But as of now, there is no indication that Day has any intention of doing that either.
