COLOMBUS -Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day was the subject of numerous headlines, both good and bad, surrounding his energetic but aggressive comments after the Buckeyes' win at Notre Dame two weekends ago.

Day called out former Fighting Irish head coach Lou Holtz and the rest of his team's critics, saying he believed a win against then-No. 9 Notre Dame proved the toughness and quality of this year's Buckeyes squad. As the days passed, fans on both sides began to grow tired of the constant stream of articles and comments about the unofficial conflict.

Day finally put the feud to rest on Tuesday during his weekly press conference when he was asked about the reaction from his comments, saying all that was on his mind was beating Maryland on Saturday.

"I don't really want to get into much of that today, just because all the focus is on Maryland," Day said. "But, a couple things. One, I'm proud of the fact that we're 2-0 against Notre Dame in the last two years. I'm proud of the way our team played. I'm proud of the grit that they showed."

Day acknowledged the extra degree of passion that came with a dramatic win for his guys against a high-caliber Notre Dame team, and said the reaction from Ohio State's fans was exactly what he had hoped for.

"It was an emotional game, and I can tell you that the response that I've got from Buckeye Nation, people around Columbus, our team, has been remarkable," Day said. "They just love the passion our team played with on Saturday night."

The Ohio State Buckeyes (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) host the Maryland Terrapins (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) inside Ohio Stadium at noon on Saturday, October 7 on FOX.
