Rare Schedule Conflict Has "The Game," Ohio State Men's Basketball on the Same Day

Buckeye fans will be able to their favorite college team play on the gridiron and the hardwood on the same day for the first time in 26 years.

Year after year, Ohio State fans make a full day out of "The Game," when their favorite Scarlet and Gray-clad football team takes on their archrival: the Michigan Wolverines.

This year, however, Buckeyes enthusiasts may have to switch their focus from the gridiron to the hardwood following football's final whistle.

Saturday, November 25 not only features the historic rivalry matchup but also aligns with a basketball tournament in Destin, Florida in which the Buckeye men's team is taking part.

This year is the first occurrence of Ohio State men's basketball playing on the same day as "The Game" since November 22, 1997, when the Buckeyes took on Robert Morris inside St. John Arena.

For perspective, the Schottenstein Center (the current home of Buckeye men's and women's basketball) was almost exactly a year away from hosting its first-ever event: a Neil Diamond concert on November 8, 1998.

Ohio State hoops will first play in the Sunshine State against the Alabama Crimson Tide at 7 p.m. Eastern on Friday, November 24. Regardless of the contest's outcome, the Buckeyes would play again the next day opposite either Oregon or Santa Clara.

Should Ohio State lose on Friday, the Buckeyes would play at 4 p.m. on Saturday. In contrast, a Scarlet and Gray victory against the Crimson Tide would bring a 7 p.m. tipoff.

Activity in Columbus can be expected to be at or near its greatest levels ever, particularly in the areas close to Ohio State's campus. Buckeye fans should therefore be sure to pack plenty of hot dogs and cooler ice and expect a full day of cheering on Saturday, November 25.

In other words, what they usually do.
