Ole Miss C Calvin Harris Picked By Chicago White Sox In 4th Round of MLB Draft

Another Rebel is heading for the South Side of Chicago.

OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Rebels catcher Calvin Harris was selected with the No. 116 pick in the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox on Monday afternoon.

Harris is the second Rebel to be chosen by the White Sox in this year's draft, joining Ole Miss shortstop Jacob Gonzalez who was selected in the first round. Both Harris and Gonzalez will join former Ole Miss first basemen Tim Elko in Chicago's minor league system. Elko was drafted by the White Sox during the 2022 draft.

The White Sox clearly see potential in three key players from Ole Miss' 2022 national championship run.

In 2023, Harris hit for .321 and led the Rebels in runs scored with 52 in 209 at-bats. The Peosta, Iowa, native made history in May by setting two new Ole Miss single-game records and tying a third when he mashed four home runs in one game versus the Missouri Tigers.

Harris became the first player in SEC history to hit four big flys in a conference matchup and just the third SEC player to do it period. The junior finished the 2023 season with 67 hits, 12 home runs, 46 RBI, and 121 total bases.

In his three-year career with Ole Miss, Harris hit .304, 17 home runs, and 85 RBIs while being walked 53 times. Harris registered a career on-base percentage of .381 with the Rebels.
