Ole Miss DB Daijahn Anthony Among Highest-Graded Safties in Week 2
OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Rebels safety Daijahn Anthony is new to the team after transferring to Oxford in May, but he has made an immediate impact on the defensive side of the ball through the first two games of the 2023 season.
Anthony played a critical role in helping the Ole Miss defense silence the Tulane Green Wave in the second half of their Week 2 matchup, as the Rebels only allowed three points after halftime.
On Tuesday, Pro Football Focus revealed the highest-graded Power 5 safeties from Week 2, and Anthony was rated No. 5 with a PFF grade of 86.5 after recording two tackles and two pass breakups versus Tulane.
PFF grades are determined on a play-by-play basis, and posit how much an individual player "contributes to production" on every snap.
Washington State Cougar Jaden Hicks and Mississippi State Bulldog Shawn Preston Jr. led all Power 5 safeties in Week 2 with grades of 90.2, followed by USC Trojan Max Williams (89.0), and Georgia Bulldog Malaki Starks (88.0)
Anthony has recorded five tackles, two pass breakups, and one interception through two games. The Richmond, Va., native is currently second on Ole Miss in pass breakups and is tied for first in interceptions.
Anthony arrived at Ole Miss ahead of fall camp after spending two seasons with the Liberty Flames. He appeared in 22 games for Liberty and registered 41 tackles, 1.5 TFLs, three interceptions, and six passes defended.
Anthony will get another opportunity to shine in Ole Miss' defensive back rotation when the Rebels host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on SEC Network.
