New Ole Miss Transfers Tre Harris, Joshua Harris Named Breakout Candidates in 2023

Two new additions from the NCAA Transfer Portal are slated to have crucial roles with the Ole Miss Rebels in 2023.

OXFORD, Miss. -- Dealt the most difficult regular season schedule in 2023, Ole Miss Rebels coach Lane Kiffin hit the NCAA Transfer Portal hard this offseason in search of talent needed to bolster his roster for the coming storm. Kiffin once again secured a transfer class full of players ready to make an immediate impact on both sides of the ball.

Two players from Ole Miss' 2023 portal haul were named breakout candidates for the upcoming season by 247Sports on Monday, receiver Tre Harris and defensive lineman Joshua Harris. The former spent the last three seasons playing for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, while the latter was a member of the NC State Wolfpack from 2019-22.

Both players committed to the Rebels in December and are set to take on crucial roles within Kiffin's squad this fall. Here are the excerpts on the Harrises:

JOSHUA HARRIS, OLE MISS DL (FROM NC STATE)

"Harris is a player who always flashed some big-time ability at NC State. He has great strength at the point of attack and, in his money year, could be an impact starter for Ole Miss. With some potentially down passing games in the SEC West this year and a renewed emphasis on running the football, Harris will be important for the Rebels."

TRE HARRIS, OLE MISS WR (FROM LOUISIANA TECH)

"There were a lot of hyped receivers in the transfer portal this offseason, but Harris has flown below the radar, which I don't really understand. Harris was an immensely productive player in C-USA last season, catching 65 passes for 935 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was also someone who the La Tech quarterbacks trusted in contested catch situations with Harris reeling in 16 of them (eighth nationally). With Ole Miss losing its top two receivers from a year ago, there's a chance for Harris to come in right away and produce in a system that will put him in position for some easy yardage. Harris could quickly be one of the more productive receivers in the SEC."

Harris (DL) only appeared in 20 games for the Wolfpack - recording 27 tackles, 4.5 TFLs, and one sack - but the 6-foot-5, 350-pound lineman will provide a much-needed boost to Ole Miss' run defense. The addition of Harris gives newly hired Ole Miss defensive coordinator Pete Golding another talented piece to rotate along the defensive line.

On offense, Harris (WR) will be one of the top targets in the Ole Miss receiver room after former transfer Chris Marshall was dismissed from the team in May. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound receiver played in 24 games for Louisiana Tech, hauling in 106 receptions for 1,527 receiving yards, and 14 touchdowns. Harris caught 10 of those 14 touchdowns last fall. Harris was recently rated as a Top 5 wideout in the Southeastern Conference entering 2023 by Pro Football Focus.
