OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Rebels coach Lane Kiffin joined an exclusive group when he agreed to a contract extension in December. Kiffin became one of the highest-paid coaches in college football and joined the $9 million salary club, which has become the average salary for coaches in 2024.

With Nick Saban now officially out of the picture, there is a new hierarchy on the gridiron as well as payroll in college football, so 247Sports released rankings for the 15 highest-paid coaches in 2024. Kiffin's new deal lands him in a three-way tie for eighth place with Josh Heupel (Tennessee) and Mark Stoops (Kentucky), and one spot above James Franklin (Penn State), who he beat in the 2023 Peach Bowl.

The excerpt on Kiffin's extension can be found below.

"The Peach Bowl winner who may have a top 10 team in 2024 agreed to a new extension in December that keeps him around through the 2028 season," 247Sports writes.

Kiffin expressed gratitude towards Ole Miss, Chancellor Glenn Boyce, and Athletic Director Keith Carter following his extension announcement in December.

"We're doing things here that have never been done before, and with the commitment that our leadership and supporters are making, we have the opportunity to build on the foundation that has been established over the last four years," Kiffin told reporters. "I'm grateful to Chancellor Boyce and Keith for their support, and we look forward to continuing on our path to becoming a championship program."

His extension is well deserved, as the Rebels are coming off their second 10-win regular season in three years, and their first New Year's Six victory under Kiffin. Kiffin has Ole Miss poised for even greater heights in 2024, as he has recruited the No. 3 transfer portal class in the nation, per On3. The new 12-team playoff has given Ole Miss a legitimate path to a national championship, and the Rebels are prepared to go all in with Kiffin.
