Oregon Football Announces Two New Additions to Coaching Staff
Oregon Football announced two new additions to Dan Lanning's coaching staff on Monday.
Mike Cavanaugh will be the assistant offensive line coach for the Ducks in 2023, while Brian Michalowski will coach the inside linebackers.
Mike Cavanaugh joins the Oregon Ducks after serving as the offensive line coach at Arizona State in 2022 under Herm Edwards. He's coached for more than 30 years and is originally from Wallingford, Connecticut.
His coaching background includes stops at Syracuse, Nebraska and in the Pac-12 at Oregon State.
Cavanaugh is an important addition to the coaching staff because he can help guide new offensive line coach A'lique Terry as he takes over a group that was previously coached by Adrian Klemm. He not only brings knowledge of the position but also of the conference with him to Eugene.
Michalowski comes over from Oregon State, where he served as a defensive quality control analyst. Oregon's new inside linebackers coach hails from Morristown, New Jersey and his coaching resume includes coaching the outside linebackers at Colorado (2019-2021) and being a defensive analyst at Georgia in 2018, among other jobs.
Michalowski takes over for Jake Long, who rejoined Nick Saban's coaching staff at Alabama after spending just one season with the Ducks in Eugene in 2022. He'll coach a group led by Iowa linebacker transfer Jestin Jacobs as well as returners Jeffrey Bassa and Keith Brown.
The two newest hires on Monday complete Dan Lanning's coaching staff at just the right time as the Ducks prepare to begin spring football practice in March.
