Tez Johnson Among College Football's Highest Graded Returning Wide Receivers in 2023

The Ducks added the electric playmaker from Troy this offseason and he should make an instant impact in 2023.
In this story:

The Oregon wide receiver room is loaded going into next season.

Troy Franklin is the biggest name in the room, but it looks like we can expect to see plenty of Tez Johnson in 2023.

The former Troy wide receiver is one of PFF's highest graded returning wide receivers, grading out at 89.9, trailing only Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr., who graded out at 90.2

Johnson is the only Pac-12 wide receiver listed inside the top 10.

Duck fans got their first look at Johnson over the weekend in Oregon's spring game and from what we saw, there's plenty to be excited about.

He finished the spring game with three catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. Not the craziest of stat lines, but he did have the highlight of the day--catching a short pass over the middle from Ty Thompson and shaking two defenders out of their socks en route to a 63-yard touchdown.

I've been writing all offseason about how Johnson has a different gear than the rest of the players in Junior Adams' group, and we got to see why that's the case in the spring game.

Teaming him up with Franklin, Traeshon Holden, Kris Hutson and Kyler Kasper should give the Ducks one of the best wide receiver units in the Pac-12 next season and plenty of talented options for quarterback Bo Nix. But Oregon could still add to the mix though, as they're considered the favorites to land USC wide receiver transfer Gary Bryant Jr.

UTSA's leading wide receiver Zakhari Franklin hit the portal last weekend after putting together a pair of monster seasons under Will Stein, which could make him an intriguing option for the Ducks if they choose to get involved.

Whatever happens between now and the start of next season, you can bet that Tez Johnson will play a big role in Oregon's offense and should be a problem for opposing defenses.
