Defensive Back Jason Mitchell Sets Commitment Date
The Oregon Ducks have yet to land a commitment from a defensive back in the 2024 recruiting class, but they could be taking one step closer.
On Tuesday, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco safety Jason Mitchell II, announced that he will make his college commitment on September 16 when the Braves travel to Hawaii to play the Kahuku Red Raiders.
Mitchell transferred from Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra to St. John Bosco this offseason and joins a loaded secondary that also features other national recruits in the 2024 class in safety Peyton Woodyard (Georgia commit) and cornerback Marcelles Williams (top 100 prospect.)
He's taken multiple trips to Eugene in the past and looks like he'll make return for an official visit before he makes his commitment.
On Tuesday 247Sports' Greg Biggins reported that Mitchell is still in the process of figuring out his official visit schedule, but he plans to take at least three of those trips to Oregon, LSU and USC.
Mitchell has been very active on the recruiting trail of late, taking recent trips to Penn State, Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M and Washington.
He spoke with Ducks Digest back in February about what he's prioritizing as he takes visits and gets a closer look at schools.
"I'm really just soaking it all in and trying to just enjoy it. This was my dream a couple of years ago. All my baby bros were doing it and this is what I wanted to do. It happened and I just feel blessed. Having fun with it."
Mitchell played all over the field in 2022 at Serra. He played quarterback, receiver and defensive back. Oregon, like most schools recruiting him, view him as a defensive back.
The Ducks signed three defensive backs out of Southern California in 2023 including Mitchell's former teammate Rodrick Pleasant, as well as Daylen Austin and Solomon Davis.
Oregon's 2024 recruiting class sits at five verbal commitments and is ranked No. 12 nationally by 247Sports.
