One Official Visit Remains for Kamar Mothudi as Decision Nears
Linebacker is a major position of need for Oregon in the 2024 recruiting class and one of their top targets is expected back on campus for his official visit next weekend.
Ducks Digest caught up with Valley Village (Calif.) Campbell Hall linebacker Kamar Mothudi during the Elite 11 finals in Redondo Beach.
Mothudi has knocked out all but one of his official visits and spoke about schools in his top five like Utah, Michigan State and Washington, where he officially visited this past weekend.
On Utah
"It was nice. I liked it a lot. I had been up there before so I kind of knew what to expect. Just went over everything, the boxes I have, the checklist. I just went there to check it again. It was a good trip."
On Michigan State
"Going in I didn't know what to expect. I was kind of taking it to take it. But once I got there it was like wow. Kind of like an eye opener. It's actually a really good program. I got to spend time with Coach Tucker and Coach (Scottie) Hazelton. Just everything they're doing, it's real."
On Washington
"I'm mainly going to kind of see their coaching style. I go on these trips for the coaches meetings, get to interact with the coaches and see how they are. When we go over defense or we review film, kind of see how they coach things, how they try to explain it to me. Am I able to pick it up am I not? That's kind of why I'm taking the trip to see how I feel with them."
Dan Lanning and the Ducks will get his final official visit when he heads up to Eugene this weekend.
"My mindset for that (trip) is kind of not even really looking at the football part," Mothudi said. "I've been up there, I've seen all that. But kind of seeing stuff they have for my intended major, more student life stuff."
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound backer has gotten close with a few Duck commits in his class.
"Actually I think the closest commit, Aaron Flowers, we were up there on the same unofficial, so I got to spend time with him," Mothudi said. "I check in with him from time to time. So Cal, Dillon Gresham that's actually my guy. I used to play youth with him, so we're real tight. Close with him."
Mothudi is winding down his recruitment with his last official visit to Oregon and gave the latest on a timeline.
"It's still kind of June-ish, July. End of June early July, some time around there. But right now I'm kind of seeing if I'm gonna go after the fourth of July--wait then, take some time and evaluate while being out of my trips, or if I kind of want to make a sooner decision--getting back while it's all fresh on me. I'm still figuring that out but some time around there."
