Oregon Football 2024 Recruiting Hot Board: EDGE

Tosh Lupoi and Dan Lanning need to bring more game changers to Eugene that can get after the quarterback.
In this story:

If you watched Oregon's defense in 2022 it didn't take long to notice a recurring theme. The Ducks couldn't get after the quarterback, totaling just 18 sacks on the year and getting shredded through the air.

Dan Lanning and Tosh Lupoi signed a number of talented edge rushers in the 2023 recruiting class to try and fix that problem including Matayo Uiagalelei, Blake Purchase and Teitum Tuioti. They also added highly-coveted South Carolina transfer Jordan Burch from the transfer portal.

Now we're taking a look at the top EDGE targets for Oregon in the 2024 recruiting class.

Elijah Rushing

Rushing is a huge name on Oregon's big board and he's been linked to the Ducks since the days of Mario Cristobal. It's not too often that you find top-end talent along the defensive line out West, so it makes sense why Dan Lanning and Tosh Lupoi have made him a top priority.

He'll be back in Eugene for Oregon's spring game and plans to make his decision in the summer. The Ducks are battling the likes of Michigan, Notre Dame and Miami.

Colin Simmons

Simmons is another elite name at edge rusher in the 2024 class. Playing for national powerhouse Duncanville, he's going to be a hard pull out of Texas.

Oregon has numerous staff members that are deeply tied into the Lone Star State like Will Stein and Antonio Parks but it doesn't feel like the Ducks have much momentum early on.

TJ Lindsey

Lindsey exploded on the recruiting trail after a strong showing at the National Combine in San Antonio during the Adidas All-American Bowl. He's been all over the country taking trips this spring to LSU, Arkansas, TCU and SMU just to name a few.

He's pretty big for an edge rusher at 6-4, 275, but clearly the Oregon staff sees a lot of potential if Tony Tuioti to flew all the way across the country to see one of his basketball games.

Wyatt Gilmore

Gilmore is one of the biggest names in the Midwest this cycle and for good reason. His strong play at Rogers Senior has led to offers from Miami, Oklahoma and Purdue among others.

He isn't as highly-rated as some other guys on this list but he's already visited Eugene and plans to return. Gilmore strikes me as a bit more of a developmental guy, which could result in him flying under the radar.

Jamonta Waller

Waller earned five-star status in the latest 247 rankings update and he's one of the hottest names in the country right now.

He was teammates with 2023 Oregon running back signee Dante Dowdell at Picayune, which could help the Ducks gain some momentum. Waller is scheduled to visit Oregon for the spring game, which is their chance to make themselves contenders for a top talent in the Southeast.

Schools like Penn State, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas A&M are all involved as well.

Jordan Ross

Ross is going to be a tough pull for Oregon as the No. 1 player in Alabama, but you have to keep swinging for the big recruits. The Ducks offered in February and the next step is getting him on campus.

He's set to visit LSU, Auburn and Tennesse this spring. Look for Tosh Lupoi and Carlos Locklyn to utilize their ties to Alabama in this one.
