Oregon Football's Dream 2024 Recruiting Class 1.0
Oregon's 2024 recruiting class is flying high heading into a crucial stretch in June. Official visits will start rolling and the Ducks will put their best foot forward in hopes of landing some more top-tier talent.
Dan Lanning and company currently have 14 verbal commitments and are surging with plenty of other recruits.
Today I'm taking my first look at Oregon's dream class.
Quarterback (2)
Luke Moga
Michael Van Buren
Already wrapped up. Two quarterbacks I really like. I think Van Buren is more college ready but I love Moga's athletic tools and I think the argument could be made that he has more upside.
Running Back (1)
Nate Frazier
Others to watch: Jason Brown Jr., De'Jaun Riggs, Christian Clark
Frazier has been Locklyn's No. 1 target dating back to last fall and that hasn't changed. The Ducks are going up against the likes of Alabama, Georgia and Nebraska but I think they can get it done. He's a special talent and has had serious interest in Oregon since landing the offer.
Wide Receiver (5)
Jordan Anderson
Tyseer Denmark
Dillon Gresham
Jack Ressler
Ryan Pellum
I really like this haul Junior Adams already has. Tons of talent and I think Ressler will hop in the fold next month.
Aside from him I think Pellum is the guy they push hardest for along with Jeremiah McClellan from St. Louis.
Tight end (2)
AJ Pugliano
Jackson Ford
Don't think there's much more the Ducks need to do here. They have a top in-state guy and someone with a ton of upside out of Texas. Ford is a bit more raw as a tight end since he previously played quarterback in high school and has been repping at defensive end as well.
Bottom line, Oregon is in good shape.
Offensive line (5)
Fox Crader
Trent Ferguson
Brandon Baker
JacQawn McCroy
Preston Taumua
Other names: Eddy Pierre-Louis, Devin Brooks
This group probably has some of the most work of any to do in this class. I'm really confident A'lique Terry will become one of the better recruiters on this staff, but then again, who isn't a great recruiter?
They'll need to fight to hang on to Crader, but fortunately they got in early on him and they're in a great spot with multiple tackles. I think Baker ends up a Duck, along with McRoy, and I like where they stand with Taumua.
Defensive line (3)
Tionne Gray
Xadavien Sims
Aydin Breland
This might be a group Oregon is looking for more bodies than three at, but this is my early look. They have two really solid pieces already in the fold, but it's a group they're going to lose a lot of players at following the 2023 season.
Fortunately for the coaches they hit the the position really hard last cycle, so they have guys that will hopefully develop well as true freshmen. There's a long way to go with Breland, but I'm liking Oregon's chances of late, especially with the proximity.
Edge Rusher (3)
Jaxson Jones
Elijah Rushing
Jordan Ross
Similar to interior defensive line, the Ducks hit this position hard in 2023. Rushing is the biggest name they've been trending for and Ross it the other guy I'm feeling best about right now.
Collin Simmons is reportedly taking an official visit this summer, so EDGE may be a spot they end up being more selective at.
Linebacker (3)
Justin Williams
Dylan Williams
Kamar Mothudi
First out: Brayden Platt
This haul would be absolutely elite and I think it's incredibly realistic. Justin Williams would be a massive statement win on the recruiting trail and I think they've been leading for Dylan Williams since he de-committed from USC.
My pick has been on Mothudi for a while. Platt is another guy that's been high on Oregon for a while, but I wonder where he falls in the pecking order here.
Cornerback (2)
Ify Obidegwu
Dakoda Fields
Other names: Chris Johnson Jr., Miles Lockhart, Zabien Brown
Oregon took a ton of corners last year and I think they'll end up only signing two. Fields has been heavily linked to the Ducks more than a year but USC isn't going to make this one easy. That said, I still feel the best about Fields of any corner.
Safety (2)
Aaron Flowers
Jaylen McClain/Peyton Woodyard
Flowers is a big addition and a great start for Chris Hampton in the high school ranks at Oregon. McClain is going to be a hard pull from Big Ten country but I know the Ducks really like him.
Woodyard has been committed to Georgia since January but Oregon hasn't stopped recruiting him and I think they'll get an official visit.
Total: 28
Final thoughts
I know 28 is a pretty big number, so maybe I need to go back and trim this list down a bit, but I don't see the names in this group as all that unreasonable. The Ducks are heavily in the mix or a top school for nearly every recruit listed and have hosted them on multiple visits.
I'll probably go back and reevaluate this list in the summer, as things will likely change. But the Ducks would love to sign this class and it will more than likely go down as the best Eugene has ever seen.
