Oregon Lands Former Austin Peay Punter Matthew Rigney
Joe Loirg isn't getting complacent with Oregon's special teams.
On Tuesday, the Ducks landed a commitment from former Austin Peay punter Matthew Rigney.
He announced his commitment on social media.
"Committed! Thankful to Dan Lanning, Joe Lorig, Josh Robinson and the entire staff for this opportunity," Rigney wrote in a social media. "Let's go Ducks fans!"
Rigney is the second punter to join the Ducks since the end of the 2022 season. Earlier this offseason the team added true freshman Luke Dunne from ProKick Australia.
Like Dunne, Rigney also hails from Australia, and is originally Newcastle, Australia, located in the Southwest region of the country in in the state of New South Wales.
Prior to announcing his commitment to Dan Lanning Rigney was at Austin Peay from 2020 through the 2022. Last season he earned All-ASUN conference honors and appeared in ten games, averaging 40.9 per punt. Of his 44 total punts, 6 were touchbacks, 13 were fair caught and 8 were pinned inside the 20-yard line.
He had four kicks that traveled more than 50 yards.
In 2022 the Ducks averaged 37.81 yards per punt and punted a total of 32 times.
