Oregon RB Target Nate Frazier Set to See Two SEC Programs
There may not be a hotter running back on the recruiting trail this spring than Nate Frazier out of Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei. He's a priority 2024 target for Oregon coach Carlos Locklyn, who's been recruiting him hard since offering in September.
We got to see him on Sunday at the Under Armour Next Camp in Mission Viejo, and he impressed once again, taking home running back MVP honors.
Frazier has landed nearly every major offer in college football, including Oklahoma, Georgia, Auburn and Ole Miss in the last month alone.
The 5-foot-11, 210-pound back recently took his first trip Lincoln to check out the Nebraska Cornhuskers and they made quite the impression.
"It actually exceeded my expectations, " Frazier said of the trip. "It was totally different man. Nebraska is a great place. As far as their coaching staff Matt Rhule is a great guy. Then you have coach E.J. Barthel who is a great coach. He has a history of fighting through everything, fighting through adversity. He has gotten himself in a great position and the running back room over there is great. He knows what he's doing."
Now that he's seen the Huskers he's got his sights set on two big trips to the SEC this month.
"I should be visiting Tennessee and Alabama in three weeks,"he said. "I think Tennesse is (April) 11 and 12 and I'm not sure when Alabama is."
The Mater Dei star set a new PR in the 100 meters last week with a 10.58 and knows his speed will fit in well in Knoxville.
"I see they got a Cali Flock over there. They got one of the number one quarterbacks in the country over there Nico Iamaleava. Over the past couple of months I'm starting to build a really great relationship with Coach (Jerry) Mack.
"It looks like he likes strong, fast backs, shifty backs and I feel like I fit their offense well. I've seen that they get their running backs all over the field as well. Tennesse has a great program over there and they had a great season last year beating Alabama. I feel like I'll fit their offense because I know they believe in their speed guys."
Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide offered in January and the interest in Alabama is almost self-explanatory.
"Not taking away from any schools but there's not really too much I have to say about Alabama. Alabama is Alabama. You got a great head coach Nick Saban. You got Coach G (Robert Gillespie) at running back, coach Holmon Wiggins, I communicate with them.
"Coach G has a really great personality. You saw what he did for Jahmyr Gibbs. I really relate myself to him a lot. They're a really great school. That's RBU. There's another school that's RBU. I feel like they'll develop me as a great back, develop me as a man as well."
A lot of schools are pursuing Frazier and he highlighted some that are pushing the hardest.
"It's a lot of schools I'm hearing from. A couple of schools that are recruiting me the most right now are Tennesse, Washington, Oregon, Miami, Penn State, Georgia, Alabama and Nebraska."
Tennessee and Alabama are up next, but what about getting back to Eugene soon?
"Yes sir I'm planning on it. Coach Lock that's my guy so I gotta get back up there."
Frazier noted that upcoming visits will play a big role in his eventual commitment and commented on when that might come.
"Really I just want it to be whenever it feels right to decide what school," he said. "I want to visit all the schools that treat me as a priority and go to the schools that I feel are a priority as well. After I'm done visiting all my schools that are a priority we'll have a great conversation with my Mom and my Father. Sit down, talk about that. Sit down, get on the phone, talk with the coaching staff as well and decide. It will either be before the season, the middle of the season or after you never know. It's really just a feeling thing for me."
