Oregon WR Target Malachi Durant Updates Recruitment

Malachi Durant says Oregon is among the schools he's talking to most ahead of the start of spring football.
In this story:

2024 Graham (Wash.) Graham-Kaposwin wide receiver Malachi Durant is a top wide receiver target for the Oregon Ducks.

He transferred to a new school after spending the previous three years at Puyallup (Wash.) High, where the Ducks signed offensive lineman Dave Iuli in 2022.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound wide out played in the Sup7r 7on7 Tournament in Los Angeles over the weekend and updated Ducks Digest on his recruitment.

He hasn't been busy on the recruiting trail lately but did take a trip to UCLA on Monday.

"I'm just loving the way how they recruit me," Druant said about the Bruins. "I have a really deep connection with Jerry Neuheisel the receivers coach. So he's been staying on me, trying to get me out to visit him and all that. And he's been coming out to see me when he can when he comes to Washington."

In addition to UCLA, Oregon is a school that Durant has had a lot of contact with as wide receivers coach Junior Adams leads the way. The Washington product came away from the 2022 season intrigued by what he saw from the Ducks.

"Me and June, we really have a deep connection. I talk to him almost every day. I love the way Oregon runs their offense as well. How easily they score points and how they utilize their receivers."

Having coached the Huskies before joining Dan Lanning's staff, Junior Adams is no stranger to the state of Washington. His detailed coaching style is part of what has Oregon as a top contender for Durant.

"He's really laid back. Even when I went to practice to see him," he said about Adams. "When he sees something they need to work on he's really taking the time to show them how to do it correctly. And he's really not super loud and all that, but he's really in depth on what to teach."

Oregon State is another Pac-12 school that's in the mix.

"The receiver coach came to my school and actually walked me through their plays. Walked me through how they run their specific plays and when they run certain plays, so I really liked how in-depth they were in getting me the knowledge about what they're really about."

With his UCLA trip in the books Durant hopes to make a return to Eugene before long, speaking on his plans for future visits.

"I want to visit Oregon again. I also want to go to Oregon State---go visit them because those are the two schools I've really been talking to a lot."

A decision may not be far off for the star pass catcher.

"Definitely by the summer," he said of when he could make his commitment. "If not spring then summer for sure. Before football season starts, I'd say around the end of spring ball."

Two factors will go a long way in who ends up securing his commitment.

"Relationships. Relationships and development. How are they going to develop me to become the best player I can be?"

Durant mentioned Fresno State is another school that's been ramping up contact recently and he's hoping to learn more about that program.

The Ducks already hold verbal commitments from 2024 wide receivers Jordan Anderson and Tyseer Denmark, but Durant looks like a prime candidate to hop in the fold next.
