It's been an eventful start to the early signing period for Dan Lanning and the Ducks.

It started out with flipping St. Louis (Mo.) Christian Brothers wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan from Ohio State. Then it got even sweeter when Long Beach (Calif.) Millikan wide receiver Ryan Pellum flipped his commitment from USC to Oregon.

Ducks Digest was on scene in Long Beach and spoke with Pellum about why he chose to sign with the Ducks.

"I think I'll be better produced over there as a receiver," he said. "Think I got a better chance over there. As far as developing myself as a receiver."

When did he know it was going to be Oregon?

"These last couple days. My decision kind of faded over to Oregon."

Strong relationships with both head coach Dan Lanning as well as wide receivers coach Junior Adams helped seal the deal.

"I got good relationships with both of them. Dan Lanning, he's always been a family guy. He's really cool, so I see myself over there. And I like him as a coach, he really pushes his guys to be the best that they can be.

"And Junior Adams I got a good relationship with him. My brother had a good relationship with him. He's like family."

There was some chatter about a possible last-minute trip to Eugene prior to the early signing period, and Pellum's brother Romeo Pellum confirmed the newest Duck was able to visit Oregon prior to the flip.

"Yeah he went before the dead period. Real quiet, no one knew," the older Pellum and Millikan head coach confirmed to Ducks Digest.

Pellum is currently committed to play in the Under Armour All-American Bowl, which will be part of what's next for the future Duck pass catcher, along with enrolling early.

"I'll be enrolling soon, so that'll be coming up. I'll see about the All-American game."

The Southern California star is excited to compete with the other wide receivers Oregon was able to sign on Wednesday.

"It's going to be a great room," he said. "It's going to be a lot of competition in there. It's going to be a lot of greatness in there, so we're all going to provide for the team. It's going to be great."

Following Pellum's commitment, the Ducks now have the No. 4 ranked class in the country according to 247Sports.
