Schools Standing out for Brayden Platt Ahead of Oregon Official Visit
There's a strong group of linebackers Oregon is recruiting in the 2024 class and one of Dan Lanning's top targets is Yelm (Wash.) linebacker Brayden Platt.
The 6-foot-2, 245-pound backer has kicked off his official visit slate and will be in Eugene this weekend.
"I took one to UCLA in May and this past weekend I went to Oklahoma," Platt told Ducks Digest during the Elite 11 Finals last week. "Those were both good and then this upcoming weekend, not this weekend but next weekend I'm going to Oregon."
Platt spoke about his trip to Westwood as the Bruins continue to increase their recruiting efforts in the 2024 class.
"It was good," he said about the visit. "Coach (Ken) Norton is a really really good coach. It was good seeing how he thought. It was a really good trip."
The Sooners have a history of producing great linebackers and they made a strong impression on the Washington product as well.
"The trip went great. They have my attention because with Coach V (Brent Venables), well he's bringing back the defensive culture and what he does with defenses."
Platt added that he's also considering an official visit to Texas A&M, but Oregon is the only other trip on his schedule.
Linebackers Coach Brian Michalowksi and defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi are his top recruiters and they haven't let up after being in the picture for a long time.
"Definitely still heavily recruiting and it's still steady," he said of the Ducks. "It doesn't go up and down, it's definitely steady."
Platt is working from a top eight schools but sees the Ducks high on his list.
"Oregon's definitely like the top of the list for sure."
As he heads into his senior season at Yelm, Platt has an idea of when he'd like to wrap up the process.
"I want in my head to decide in the next one to three months and then have a commitment on my Mom's birthday, September 4."
What's most important to him in his recruitment?
"Definitely for me it's still development and life after football. Those are definitely the two most major things for me."
A few schools look like they've separated themselves from the pack and are recruiting him hardest.
"The one's who are recruiting me the hardest right now would probably be Oregon, Oklahoma, UCLA, Michigan and Texas A&M."
