THE LATEST: Oregon and 5-Star Safety Faheem Delane

Faheem Delane will take his first trip to Oregon next weekend.
In this story:

January has been a busy recruiting month for the Oregon Ducks and they're set to host Olney (Md.) Our Lady Good Counsel safety Faheem Delane for a visit on January 26. He's the No. 1 ranked safety in the 2025 class (per 247SportsComposite) and spoke with Ducks Digest about the latest in his recruitment.

The 6-foot-2, 193-pound defensive back is taking things in stride with his recruitment, especially with coaches on the move this offseason.

"With all the coaching changes I really gotta reevaluate everything," Delane said of where he's at with his recruitment. "Because there's really only a few coaches who are really gonna be there for the time I'm there. Probably Coach Lanning, Coach Kirby (Smart), Coach Sark, Coach Day maybe--so just like the few schools that can really probably---the coach is gonna be there when I'm there. That's a big thing for me.  Everything's reshuffled for the most part."

Oregon will host the highly-touted safety next weekend and the direction of the program is part of the reason he wants to get out to Eugene.

"Coach Lanning, he used to coach at Georgia so he knows what good football looks like," he said. "This past season they really were one game away from being in the playoff beating Washington and Washington was a national championship contender. So that really shows you how close they are."

The head man in Eugene is what stands out most to Delane, particularly his commitment to the Ducks and love for the program.

"I would say the head coach, of course. Coach Lanning. You know, it was a big thing everybody said he was going to 'Bama, everybody said this. He posted that big thing that he was he was staying at Oregon. That just shows you how much he loves Oregon and it's his future there."

He has strong ties with the Ducks at both the coach and player level.

"I talk to Coach (Chris) Hampton the safeties coach. He calls me a lot. I talked to Coach Lanning on FaceTime a few days ago. Just excited for my visit up there.

"I train with Khyree Jackson. He's from Maryland, so he tells me everything about Oregon. He just tells me great things about Oregon and I train with him so we talk about it all the time."

The elite defensive back is ready to soak up Eugene and spoke about what he'll have his eye on during his trip.

"Just the little things 'cause everybody's facility looks the same," he said. "So really just their play style, how they will play me. What I can learn from the coaches, their knowledge, their backgrounds, what they can teach me because that's the end goal is go to the NFL. Just what they can teach me, how they can better me as a player and a person."

Aside from Oregon there are a few more schools Delane wants to see.

"I'm just gonna work out and then probably take a few (visits) in the spring before I take my officials. Probably Texas, probably Ohio State again and then after that probably just take all my officials."

When mulling over official visits, there are already some schools that could be in good standing to receive those trips.

"For sure Texas, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia. Those five," Delane said.

Delane isn't rushing into a decision, but he could see himself coming off the board before his senior season at Our Lady Good Counsel.

"Probably like July or August before the season. Just have that verbal commitment in my head. Unless the coaching changes probably I don't want to do a lot of flipping and de-committing. Everybody does that nowadays, but I'm probably gonna just stay stout on my commitment, unless the coaching changes of course. But besides that I really just want to stay solid on my commitment to the school and the program."
