After Entering the Portal, Jameel Brown Returns to Penn State
Penn State guard Jameel Brown, who entered the NCAA Transfer Portal following coach Micah Shrewsberry's departure in March, announced Monday that he will return to the Nittany Lions in 2023.
Brown was a highly ranked player in Penn State's 2022 recruiting class, a 247Sports top-100 prospect and the sixth-ranked recruit in program history. The Philadelphia native was an ESPN 4-star player and two-time all-state selection at the Haverford School and Westtown School, where he played his senior year. Brown averaged 21.7 points and eight rebounds during his three years at Haverford.
A 6-4 guard, Brown played in 14 games for the Lions as a freshman last season. He is the first Penn State player who entered the transfer portal to announce his return.
Recently, guard Kanye Clary announced that he will remain at Penn State. Clary did not enter the portal.
Brown's decision represents a third portal victory for Rhoades. The coach will bring two former VCU players with him to State College: point guard Ace Baldwin, Jr., the Atlantic 10 player of the year, and guard Nick Kern, Jr.
Two Penn State players, Kebba Njie and Evan Mahaffey, remain in the portal. Caleb Dorsey has committed to William & Mary, and Dallion Johnson is headed to Florida Gulf Coast to play for former Penn State coach Pat Chambers.
