Penn State to Kick Off 2023 Football Season in Prime Time

The Lions will host West Virginia on NBC's new Big Ten Saturday Night broadcast.

Penn State will host West Virginia in a prime-time game at Beaver Stadium to start the 2023 football season, kicking off the new Big Ten Saturday night broadcasting package on NBC.

The Sept. 2 game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff, marking the Lions first home-opening night game since 2001. It also will be the first NBC game at Beaver Stadium. Former Penn State quarterback Todd Blackledge is the analyst of NBC's Big Ten Saturday Night broadcast.

Penn State and West Virginia are playing for the first time since 1992. The home-and-home series will visit Morgantown in 2024. The Lions are 48-9-2 against the Mountaineers, having won seven of the last eight games the teams played from 1985-92.

Penn State has not announced promotional dates for the 2023 season, notably the White Out. The home opener is a possibility, though Penn State also could schedule the White Out for its Sept. 23 home game against Iowa. It's likely that the Nov. 11 home game against Michigan will be a Fox Big Noon game.
