Bub Carrington Makes Pitt History in College Debut
PITTSBURGH -- It didn't take long at all for freshman guard Carlton "Bub" Carrington to etch his name in the Pitt Panthers' record books during his collegiate debut.
With 10 points and 10 rebounds, a benchmark he reached by the 16:10 mark of the second half in the Panthers' dominant rout of North Carolina A&T at the Petersen Events Center, Carrington became just the third Pitt freshman to ever record a double-double in their first game as a freshman. With 4:10 in the second half, he hit Guillermo Diaz Graham for a triple from the to of the arc to complete the triple-double, just the fifth in Pitt history.
Before Carrington lit up Aggies, Archie Miller and Dejuan Blair were the only other Panthers in school history to record double-doubles in their first career games. Only Ricardo Greer, Darelle Porter and Kieth Starr (who did it twice) had ever recorded a triple-double for Pitt and the last came in 1998.
Carrington, a former four-star recruit from Baltimore, Maryland, started both the exhibition against Pitt-Johnstown and the season opener. Holding 15 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists, he looked done for the night with 4:31 to play in the second half and Pitt leading 82-38, but head coach Jeff Capel put him back in, to the delight of fans in attendance.
He finished the game with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists while shooting 7-12 from the field and 4-7 frm 3-point distance.
