PITTSBURGH -- The start of the 2023-24 college basketball season draws closer and closer and outlets around the country have begun to set up their preseason predictions. CBS Sports' Matt Norlander released his ACC projections last week and they don't paint an optimistic picture of the Pitt Panthers.

But despite all that Pitt lost from a team that brought them back to the NCAA Tournament, they brought in some talented players that will complement the two returning starters that should lead them into the 2023-24 season. Still, Norlander has the Panthers pegged as just the 10th-best team in the ACC this year.

"The Panthers have one of the top players in the ACC in Blake Hinson and he should form a nice duo with returner Federiko Federiko," Norlander wrote. "Pitt landed Rhode Island transfer guard Ishmael Leggett, who averaged over 16 points per game last season. Capel was once the recruiting guru for Duke under Coach K and he helped the Panthers land three top-100 recruits in the 2023 cycle: Papa Kante, Jaland Lowe and Carlton Carrington."

Norlander also tabbed Hinson as a big reason for optimism as the Panthers seek to replace four of their top five scorers from a season ago. He has Hinson as one of four "players to watch" behind predicted Player of the Year winner, Duke's Kyle Filipowski.

Duke, North Carolina, Miami, Clemson, Virginia, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, NC State and Florida State were all picked to finish ahead of Pitt in that order.
