PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have landed a commitment from the transfer portal following a successful visit by this prospect to Pittsburgh over the weekend.

Zack Austin, a 6'7 forward who began his career at High Point, announced that he would be joining the Panthers for his fourth season of college basketball after redshirting his freshman year and playing two at his previous stop. Austin was one of the first players Pitt reached out to when the transfer portal opened and he took a visit to Pittsburgh this past weekend before making his decision official. The Portal Report was the first to report the news.

Austin started 26 of 31 games last season, including the final 11 of the season, and averaged 14.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest while shooting 43% from the field, 33% from 3-point range and 79% from the free throw line. He's expected to fill a desperately-needed scoring and rebounding role for the Panthers this season, who lost their entire backcourt to graduation this offseason.

This leaves head coach Jeff Capel and company with three open scholarships remaining for the 2023-24 season. They entered the offseason with two and doubled their open spots after John Hugley and Nate Santos opted to transfer out of the program.
