PITTSBURGH -- Following his game last weekend, Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim bemoaned the state of college athletics and what he believed was NIL's outsized control over the recruiting of players from the transfer portal. He even went as far to say that the Pitt Panthers - along with Wake Forest and Miami - had all "bought" their teams this past offseason.

But this week, Boehiem issued a public apology for his comments, saying that Pitt, Wake Forest and Miami - along with all other ACC schools - were compliant with NIL rules.

"I would like to clarify remarks I made in a conversation I had with a media member following our game on Saturday evening," he said. "I apologize to the schools I mentioned. I believe the ACC member institutions are in compliance with NCAA rules governing Name, Image and Likeness (NIL). It was not my intention to imply otherwise."

Boeheim, of course, did not "imply" these things but said them explicitly. ESPN's Pete Thamel, who published Boeheim's original comments, also said he later walked back the comments. Matt Norelander of CBS later reported that Boeheim called Wake Forest head coach Steve Forbes to take back his comments.
