PITTSBURGH -- Pitt Panthers guard Bub Carrington hit his "freshman wall" midway through the season but the electric rookie has clearly moved well past those brief struggles as the season hits it's most important juncture.

In Pitt's final road game of the regular season at Boston College, Carrington set a new career scoring high with 27 points on 10-18 shooting from the field and a 7-12 mark from 3-point range. He added four rebounds and five assists to just five turnovers and two steals for good measure.

His previous career-high point total came in a massive win over Wake Forest. Carrington scored 24 points with five rebounds and four assists in that critical victory from late January. He now has three 20-point games during his first season in Pittsburgh.

Carrington couldn't have picked a better time to set a new career-scoring high, because with the local NBA franchise enjoying an off-night, an executive and assistant coach were in attendance to watch his career night. Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens and assistant coach Sam Cassell were in the stands at the Conte Forum to take in Pitt-Boston College and got to see Carrington at his best.

Carrington was asked following the win if he had been paying attention to the ACC Freshman of the Year race, which has some new contenders in it after he jumped out to an early lead.

"Nah," Carrington responded. "I'm trying to make it to the [NCAA] Tournament.
