PITTSBURGH -- In the wake of some shocking comments from Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim, who claimed the Pitt Panthers were one of several ACC teams to have "bought" their current team, Jeff Capel said wouldn't give a public response to those accusations.

"I have no comment," The Pitt head coach said during the weekly ACC head coaches conference call. "I have no reaction to it. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. I have no comment on anyone else’s opinion."

Capel added that he never talked about NIL with the transfer portal players he recruited - namely starters Nelly Cummings, Blake Hinson and Greg Elliot.

"I didn't talk to them about [NIL]," Capel said. "We never had a discussion about it. Last year, we were in a recruiting period in Pennsylvania where we could have no involvement. It never came up."

He continued to dismiss the notion that the program used NIL as a recruiting inducement, considering that his best players came from unassuming backgrounds.

"We have a guy from Colgate (Nelly Cummings), a guy who hadn't played for two years (Blake Hinson) and a guy that never really started at Marquette (Greg Elliott)," Capel said. Those are the guys you mentioned. So it never was really a conversation we had during our time recruiting."

Capel said he speak with Boeheim over the weekend but declined to share the details of that conversation publically.
