Two Pitt Stars Earn ACC Weekly Honors

The Pitt Panthers swept ACC weekly awards for the first time in school history.

PITTSBURGH -- Following a 2-0 week for the Pitt Panthers that included much-needed bounce-back wins over West Virginia and Canisius, two of their star players earned weekly honors from the ACC.

Point guard Bub Carrington earned ACC Rookie of the Week distinction for the second time this season and senior forward Blake Hinson took home the ACC Player of the Week award, the league announced. This marks the first time since Pitt joined the ACC in 2013 that the team has swept weekly awards from the conference.

Carrington, who struggled at times in his first handful of games against high-major opponents, bounced back by 16.0 points, four rebounds, seven assists to just 1.5 turnovers, and one steal per game while making 45% of his field goals over two games against the Mountainers and Golden Griffins. He is the first Pitt freshman to ever earn conference Rookie of the Week honors three times since the legendary Dejuan Blair.

Hinson averaged 27.5 points and six rebounds per game last week, while shooting 56.3% from the field and 63.2% from 3-point range, and 100% from the free throw line. He made a school-record nine 3-pointers against West Virginia and scored a career-high 29 points. Hinson ranks ninth nationally in scoring at 21.9 points per game and has made 42 3-pointers so far this year, good for the second-most in America.
