CBS Mock Draft Sends Pitt DT Calijah Kancey to Seahawks in First Round
PITTSBURGH -- The Seattle Seahawks are looking to inject some youth into their defensive line and CBS Sports' Chris Trapasso believes they'll do that by using the ninth overall pick on Pitt Panthers defensive tackle Calijah Kancey.
This is the second time in seven days that a major outlet has projected Kancey to travel cross country from Pitt to Seattle to play his first years of professional ball. Last week, Pro Football Focus' Michael Renner also mocked Kancey to the Seahawks. Now Trapasso is joining the movement. He predicts Seattle will be in the position to make this pick after a trade with the Carolina Panthers.
"The Seahawks were fine giving Poona Ford an opportunity inside as an undersized defensive tackle, so they could gravitate toward the smaller but enormously explosive and productive Kancey," Trapasso wrote. "Seattle lands both of Carolina's second-round picks (No. 62 and No. 94) in this deal."
Kancey was a unanimous All-American and ACC Defensive Player of the Year this past season after recording 31 tackles, 14.5 for a loss and 7.5 sacks in 11 games this year. He suffered a shoulder injury that kept him out of the regular season finale and will sideline him for the Sun Bowl against No. 18 UCLA, but Kancey still led the country's interior defensive linemen in tackles for loss.
