PITTSBURGH -- Amidst a rough day at the office, Pitt Panthers starting quarterback Christian Veilleux was pulled in the fourth quarter of Saturday's loss to Notre Dame.

Veilleux, who threw for just 127 yards with four interceptions to his name, was relieved in favor of Nate Yarnell on the Panthers' penultimate drive. Yarnell went on to orchestrate Pitt's only scoring drive of the game and snapped the Irish's bid at a shutout.

In a season mired in quarterback controversy, Pat Narduzzi was quick to throw cold water on the notion that there is further turmoil at the position. Rather, he stated that Yarnell entered the game so he could get reps in and give Veilleux a breather.

"It was about getting him reps and just seeing what he’s got. He’s a good football player and we’ve got a lot of faith in him as well," Narduzzi said. "Christian’s not benched. It’s just a matter of giving Nate a chance to go in there and show what he’s got."

Narduzzi was also complementary of both Yarnell's showing in the game as well as Veilleux's demeanor and show of support towards his teammate.

"Nate Yarnell came in and made a couple nice throws,“ Narduzzi stated. "It was great to see Christian, a team guy, rooting him on as well on the sideline”.
