PITTSBURGH -- Kickoff of the 2023 college football season is still more than four months away but, with spring ball concluded across the country and final rosters beginning to take shape, oddsmakers have started to release win total lines and national championship odds for the coming season. For the Pitt Panthers, DraftKings has them making a bowl game but by the thinnest of margins.

Draft Kings set the Panthers' win total line at 6.5, with the under being the favorite at -145 odds and the over set at +125. Fellow ACC teams Duke, NC State and Syracuse each have that same win total line of 6.5 while Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, Miami and North Carolina are all at 7.5 or better.

Pitt is also tied for the 30th-best odds to win the 2024 national championship. They share +20,000 odds with Louisville, Mississippi State, Texas Tech, Michigan State, Purdue, Arkansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa and Oklahoma State. Five ACC teams - Florida State, Clemson, North Carolina, Miami and NC State - have better odds.

For a team that has won 20 games over the past two seasons and finished both years ranked in the final AP top 25 poll, this could be seen taken as a sign of disrespect but there are some reasonable concerns about the roster coming into this season.

There has been major turnover along the offensive and defensive line, a new starting quarterback is taking over, the record-setting running back who served as a catalyst for the offense last season is off to the NFL and the middle linebacker who served as the heart of the defense is as well. This all comes with a far more difficult schedule staring them in the face as well.

But these were a lot of the same concerns that faced the Panthers last season after the 2021 ACC Championship roster gave way to more new faces. Pitt still won nine games anyway.
