Former Pitt QB Interviewing For Raiders OC Job
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers quarterback and assistant coach Luke Getsy was fired from his post as Chicago Bears offensive coordinator earlier this month but there is still interest around the league in landing his services.
The Las Vegas Raiders are one of those teams considering bringing on Getsy, according to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The Raiders and newly-minted head coach Antonio Pierce plan to conduct an interview with Getsy for their now-vacant offensive coordinator position, taking a special interest in what he did with Chicago's rushing offense.
The Bears fired Getsy alongside quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko and receivers coach Tyke Tolbert, running backs coach Omar Young and assistant tight ends coach Tim Zetts earlier this month. Chicago ranked 23rd and 18th in points and 28th and 20th in yards per game in each of the two seasons with Getsy coordinating the offense.
Getsy, a Munhall, Pennsylvania native and Steel Valley High School alumnus, began his college career at Pitt, earning a scholarship to play quarterback coming out of high school in 2003. He then transferred to Akron after two years with the Panthers and led the Zips to its first conference championship and bowl game appearance in program history while breaking 24 school records in the process.
Getsy was a graduate assistant for the Panthers during the 2010 season and made other stops at Akron, West Virginia Wesleyan, IUPUI, Western Michigan and Mississippi State during his college coaching career. In the NFL, he's coached for the Green Bay Packers in addition to the Bears.
